An early moonshot homer from Paul Goldschmidt and a subsequent solo bonk from Harrison Bader had Wade Miley and the Cincinnati Reds in another early hole in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals. And while the Reds managed to muster some offense to make this one an entertaining watch, it was Goldschmidt who kept fending off the Reds with hammers. His 2-run blast off Miley in the Top of the 4th - a 441 foot blast after his 439 foot one to start the game - put the Reds back on the frowning side of the scoreboard at 5-4, erasing the hard work by Miley himself and Joey Votto . Miley simply wasn’t fooling much of anyone on the day, really, as he yielded those 5 ER and 12 soggy hits in just 4 IP, an impressive amount of dodging more trouble now that I look at that staggering number of baserunners. A little poor luck here, a little frustration against LHP there, and the Reds limped to yet another loss in a game that would Luis Castillo Jersey, on paper, be categorized as ‘big.’ They now sit just 1.5 games ahead of St. Louis in the standings and are a half-game behind San Diego in the Wild Card race, with the Pads set to play the Arizona Diamondbacks later this afternoon Rob Dibble Jersey.Tony GraphaninoSource: FanGraphsThe Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the GameIt was a soggy day for Miley, yet the offense swung mostly soggy bats, too. Votto’s double was the loudest hit of the day, while Miley’s was more of the slappy kind.I dunno. Lucas Sims and Tony Santillan each fired scoreless IP of relief, respectively, with 2 K apiece. They should probably share this.Other NotesDelino DeShields, Jr. made his Reds debut in this one, pinch-running for Eugenio Suarez in the Bottom of the 6th and staying in to play CF afterwards. Remember him? This was the first of two these clubs will play today, with the back-half of the doubleheader prompted by yesterday’s rainout set to begin at 6:40 PM ET.
